Aussie Team Looking Positive for Tour de France 2011

According to The Weekend Australian (‘Australian Road Team Likely for Tour de France’, Jan 24 2010), an Australian-based cycling team could be in the 2011 Tour de France.

Following strong endorsement from UCI world cycling boss Pat McQuaid on Saturday, Melbourne-based Team 2XU/Aussie Crates (Australian Road Cycling group), plans to apply for a ProTour licence, which would likely provide the new team immediate entry into July’s epic annual event.

A team at the top level is the Holy Grail of Australian cycling, which has enjoyed a stunning boom in popularity and strength over the past three decades.

Team 2XU/Aussie Crates’ bid reached a key milestone in Adelaide on the weekend when one of its directors, Victor Barichello, met McQuaid.

“The meeting was to update the UCI on ARC’s progress and to discuss the application process for a ProTour licence,” said Barichello of Team 2XU/Aussie Crates.

“We’re working through the process of formalising a bid for an Australian ProTour licence. At this stage our intention is to lodge an application by the June deadline in order to secure a ProTour licence for 2011.

“The bid will see an Australian team compete at the highest levels of professional road cycling and has been the focus of ARC for 2 1/2 years.”

Barichello said the meeting went extremely well.

2XU Tri Transition Night

DSC02226

Last night we hosted our first Tri Transition Training night.  The FREE class offered beginner and intermediate triathletes a host of handy tips on the importance of the forgotten leg of triathlon – transition.  Former World Champion Triathlete and resident 2XU production guru Jamie Hunt conducted the session which involved both theoretical and practical components.  Thanks to great summer weather – our biggest challenge was ensuring we didn’t linger in the park all night!

2XU’s Katya Crema on Winter Olympic Pursuit

VIS Ski Cross Young Gun and proud 2XU Ambassador Katya Crema is busy skiing her way through 2010 Winter Olympic Qualifying events around Europe.  With the Winter 2010 team still yet to be announced, athletes are pushing themselves harder than ever.  Here’s Katya’s latest news…

The past week in France has been an absolute nail biter. The past two world cups were the final qualifying races for the Olympic Games.  The first of the two races was held in Les Contamines, France. This is where I competed in my first ever Ski Cross World Cup 2 years ago. It was great to come back and re live some old memories.

Training St. Johann. Grega Stupor_smal

Starting with bib number 40, I managed to qualify in 27th spot; my 3rd consecutive finals qualification for the season. The course was lots of fun. Some steep sections with water injected GS turns, and also some big jumps with lots of air time.

On Saturday, the weather came in and finals were cancelled after 2 heats of girls. I was ready to go in the gate, waiting for the familiar “Riders ready, Attention….”. With my heart rate through the roof and adrenaline pumping wildly, they made the call. You could hardly see 20m in front of you. Not ideal weather conditions when you’re launching 20+ metres through the air with 3 other skiers by your side.

So finals were postponed until the next day. The sky cleared and it was a cracker of a day. Once again I had fourth pick (which means no pick) of the gate because of my qualifying time. Coming into the first turn I was pinched out by Emilie of Switzerland. I stuck right on the tails of her skis until she went off a jump unbalanced and crashed into the nets. I managed to swerve and dodge her, and continued on to finish 3rd in my heat. Emilie was taken away in a helicopter and I later found out that she blew her ACL; the same injury I sustained just under 2 years ago…VISIT KATYA’S BLOG FOR MORE

2XU Compression Race Socks – 2009 Product of the Year!

Prominent US marathon running, triathlon and ultra-running website Running-Advice.com has pronounced 2XU Compression Race Socks its 2009 Product of the Year

According to esteemed reviewer, Joe English, of Oregon, USA;

Overall I was impressed with the feel of the 2XU Compression Racing Sock and I found that I was less fatigued in the late miles of my marathons. I would also highly recommend the 2XU Compression Recovery Sock or Calf Guard for post-marathon recovery.

English not only praises the numerous benefits of 2XU Compression Race Socks but also notes the significant standout characteristics of 2XU Compression Recovery Socks and Compression Calf Guards.

We think he does a pretty stirling job of summarising the Compression revolution at large too.

Well done Team 2XU Compression!

New Year kicks in with 2XU at Portsea

Sporting their FREE 2XU event Run Caps, some 2324 runners and walkers got their New Year resolutions off to a flying start at the infolio Portsea Twilight on Saturday in the Point Nepean National Park at Portsea, Victoria.

Portsea

Barely recovered from welcoming in the New Year, the cool weather made for near ideal conditions as the runners and walkers in the 6.7km event took on 123 steps at Point Nepean to replace the bayside beach section after the steps leading on to the beach were washed away.

Ben Ashkettle, a first time runner in the run, dominated the event winning in 21:36, well clear of David Rowell (22:57) and Campbell Maffett (23:08). Sarah Klein, backed up her win in 2009 to win in 24:35 from Courtney Powell (24:44) and Kortnee Burton (25:49)

In the 2.7km.m run Nick Connellan won in 9:42 while 10 year old Laura Powell won the female section in 9:49.

We were thrilled to see so many high performance runners leading the race in 2XU Run and Compression apparel…and departing with even more after a visit to our highly popular race tent.

We can’t think of a better way to bring in the year!
